Sausage and Peppers and Beer.....oh my!

Oh and don't forget the homemade chocolate cake! This last Saturday was the Italian Festival at the Mount Carmichael Catholic Church in Denver.  As you can tell the highlight for me was all of the delicious food and of course the people watching.  To quote Jersey Shore, there were ALOT of Guidos and Guidettes- oh and who can forget this guy??

Yup, that's Dirty Al alright.  He was just hanging by the cake tent flirting with all the old Italian church ladies.  I caught this picture right after we had won our very own cake.  And let me tell you that at 10:30 at night, after a few ice cold beers, that cake was DELICIOUS.

We arrived at the festival and immediately had to try the famous sausage and pepper sandwiches.  All the articles we had read told us that the sausage sandwiches were not to be missed-and they were right.  Probably one of the best Italian sandwiches I have had.  The rest of the evening we just stood around and people watched, believe me there was never a dull moment. We ran into a few people we knew, chatted it up with all the Italians, we made some new friends and we drank some more beer.  As we stood there enjoying the festival we realized how much longer the line for the sandwiches had gotten, people were waiting for over an hour.  It was all the way down the block and wrapped around the next.  Lucky for us we got there early and devoured our share first thing!

We had a great summer night at the festival in the 100 degree heat.  Thankfully the beer was flowing like water and quenched our thirst :) We decided we better have just one more sandwich before we left, so we braved the line (with beers in hand of course!). Can you see a theme here? Beer, sandwich, beer, beer, beer, sandwich.  I fasted the next day-ha!

We are definitely going to have to make it an annual event.  Salute!
